Personality: Diedrick is quiet, unless you can get him talking about mechanical engineering. When he finds someone he considers a peer in his field, he could talk for hours. However, he usually avoids contact with people, chosing to spend time alone tinkering with various machinery. He's polite, but a keen eye can see it's forced and that he's rather unconfortable around people. At his best he's focused and driven, at his worst he's introverted and distant.

Backstory: Diedrick is one of four children (three sisters) and of them he is the second oldest. His mother is a veterenarian tech but has since retired. She will still see local pokemon brought by the town if she is needed, but prefers to stay at home and make crafts (pokemon clothing, needlepoint, etc) to sell at the local shop. His father is a retired police officer who now spends his time fixing up the
house and volunteering around town. His father was elated to hear that Diedrick had joined the military, having served in the army himself. Diedrick's siblings have since moved from Lavender Town, each seeking their own fortunes. Diedrick is happy to stay at home and help his father take care of the property. With the most experience with machinery, many of the local families pay Diedrick to help when something breaks down. His mother often asks him when he'll settle down and start his own family, but a deep secret keeps him from doing so. Diedrick grew up in a small town, where everyone knows everyone else's business. He realized he was homosexual in his early teens, and knew it would crush his mother if she found out. He's hidden it from everyone, ashamed that he might cause his mother such pain. His father would certainly disown him, being a starkly religious man.
Diedrick rather hide himself away with his machines than be around a guy he might find attractive. He signed up for the military to escape Lavender Town and to escape the pressure of people pushing into his life. He didn't take into account that he'd be in the company of many men his age, who he'd have a difficult time avoiding. He's uncomfortable around guys who are attractive and nice to him, always afraid he'll say something to give himself away. He's terrified it will some how get back to his parents.
Diedrick escapes his despair through drinking. He's more capable of handling social situations when impaired, sometimes even flirting awkwardly with others. He of course plays this off as a joke when sober, and doesn't like to talk about his attractions. Diedrick also smokes cigarettes, using them to calm himself down and feed his oral fixation.

Chitters is a creature that tries really hard to please. He doesn't like to be alone, and feels abandoned easily. Once given a trainer he will bond quickly and his loyalty will be impossible to shake. In battle he's reckless and needs a trainer with a good sense of strategy. When given to Diedrick, the man was nonplussed and didn't take to the little bug. He was disappointed to be assigned such a tiny creature that seemed so harmless. When he realized he could use Chitters to aid him in his hobby of mechanics, their friendship was strengthened.
Chitters gets his name by the sound he makes when his fur is stroked.

Machiavelli | Growlithe | Brave Nature | Intimidate | Male
This Growlithe was trained in strict obedience and excelled past his rivals. He is a one-owner-pokemon, snarling and snaping at people who stray too close, but he reserves biting for those who touch him or his trainer. Diedrick was overjoyed when he was assigned a Growlithe. After spending a few days with the serious and reserved animal, he decided to call him Machiavelli, or Velli for short. Velli is quick to obey Diedrick, but despite the mans efforts, has not warmed up to him yet. Velli's trust is difficult to earn, but once so, is unshakable.
